Groundswell Festival Is Back With Three Epic Female Innovators
Following on the success of last year’s Women’s Business Network event, Rockets, Robots and Resilience, Groundswell is back with a follow on event to match. From earthquakes to life savings: Innovating with your back against the wall, will be held on Wednesday 29th August from 1-2.30pm featuring three woman sharing war-stories and pro-tips on intentional and unintentional innovation. You’ll hear from three trailblazing women about how they have led the way on both fronts unpacking how to innovate through some of life’s most significant challenges.

Liz Maguire, Head of Digital and Transformation at ANZ
Liz Maguire is a passionate transformational leader who leads large programmes of change to fundamentally improve customer experience in a business. Liz currently leads the digital transformation of ANZ New Zealand, the largest bank in New Zealand ANZ has the largest digital customer base, the 12th biggest website in New Zealand and the most popular mobile banking app (ANZ goMoney) on iTunes and Google Play.
Liz has a particular interest in how digital capability can work with traditional channels to improve customer and staff experience, and this interest is central to the digitisation and payments programmes she has underway within the Bank.
Prior to this she led the Branch Optimisation Programme, a $100m+ investment in updating, reconfiguring and relocating the ANZ branch network. With more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, Liz has held a wide range of leadership roles in products, marketing, business support and channel management.
She has worked for a number of leading financial services providers in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Liz has a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Studies & Labour Relations from the University of Auckland and lives in Auckland.
Anna Connell, Digital Creative & Strategist, Columnist, Commentator and Writer
Anna Connell (@annagconnell) is a digital creative and strategist at marketing agency Bettle and Associates and a commentator, columnist and writer. She writes a fortnightly column for newsroom.co.nz and commentates on politics, diversity and gender equality and social media and technology for various media including Radio Live and Radio New Zealand. She is also a member of the Auckland Writers Festival board. She has been the head of BNZ’s social media and content team and the Development Manager for Auckland Theatre Company.
Jodie Tipping, Founder and Chair of Cucumber
Jodie is the founder of Tauranga-based technology consulting and development company Cucumber. Established over 14 years ago, Cucumber is a digital technology company that specialises in decision support, automation and environmental risk management software solutions for the plant-based industry. Their core competency is enabling customers with outcomes to improve insight for faster decision-making, increase the efficiency of their operations, improve communication and collaboration, and allow staff to perform at their highest levels. Cucumber currently works with a blue chip customer base that consists of some of New Zealand’s strongest brands.
Working at the coal face for over a decade has taught Jodie about the challenges growing companies face, particularly companies in today’s competitive digital era. Jodie is passionate about the local community, sitting on a number of business advisory boards and committees wanting to raise the bar of success. She is increasingly dedicating more of her time helping businesses be brave and leverage technology for their growth.
